Symptoms and Conditions We Treat

Symptoms and Conditions

Welcome to Dr. Asher Natural Chiropractic, where we are dedicated to enhancing your well-being through specialized chiropractic care. Discover how our comprehensive approach can address a variety of health issues, promoting natural healing and long-term relief.

Arthritis

Arthritis is the accumulation of calcium within your ligaments that connect bones to one another. This process occurs after an injury goes uncorrected for a long period of time. If trauma occured in the past and was not treated properly, the loss of mobility that occurs after an injury begins the first stage of arthritis. In some cases arthritis can cause your bones to “grow together” or fuse, limiting mobility and causing pain to the area. With chiropractic care we work to provide corrective movements to the body that restore the biomechanics of the area allowing the area to function again. This increase in mobility provides relief to arthritis and slows down the accumulation of additional arthritis when motion is fully restored. Biomechanics is the study of the movement of the body, just like a mechanic studys the movement of your engine to make sure the whole car is working in unison.

Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries

Dr. Asher has attended multiple continuing education seminars for motor vehicle accidents. With these advanced trainings he is able to provide all of the proper examinations needed for his patients to receive the most specialized treatment plan based on their needs. These exams include orthopedic, neurologic, radiographic, functional movement studies, and Dr. Asher also networks with MRI of Louisiana for access to more advanced imaging, including MRIS, and CT scans. Each treatment plan is tailored specifically to the patients injuries in efforts to maximize their recovery time and get them out of pain as quick as possible. Dr. Asher also teaches you how maintain corrective function to avoid injury in the future.

Back Pain

According to the National Council on Aging (NCOA) Quote – “Nationally, the average yearly indirect and direct costs of back pain are $100-$200 billion, while the costs per patient range from $9,231-$10,143. (Sep 18 2024).”
Back pain occurs when the nerves exiting the spine become pressured. This pressure is typically due to the bones being out of alignment with one another. A more severe version of back pain may be due to incorect pressure being placed on the cartilage between the vertebral bones known as the “intervertebral discs.” As these discs become “squeezed”, they begin to bulge out into the nerve space or spinal cord. As chiropractors we work to identify what is the cause of your back pain and provide non invasive treatment without the use of medicine or surgery to correct the improper pressure leading to pain.

Bulging Disc

A bulging disc occurs when the bones of your spine have been out of alignment for a prolonged period of time. As the improper pressure accumulates it begins to compresses down harder onto the cartilage between the bones. This incorrect compression begins to cause the disc to push out, or “bulge” into the sensitive nerves causing intense pain and sometimes shooting pain into the arms or legs.

Elbow and Hand Pain

Dr. Asher treats medial epicondylitis (golfers elbow), lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), and forearm pain due to pronator teres syndrome.
Did you know the human hand has a total of 27 bones? 27×2 = 54. There are only 206 bones in the entire body. Therefore 26% of all the bones in your body are in your hands. Chiropractors can also work to adjust and align the bones of your hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder to help improve range of motion and decrease pain.

Fibromyalgia

Fibro-My-algia. “Fibro” = stringy, “My” = abbreviation for muscle, and “algia” = pain. Stringy-muscle-pain. As chiropractors we can help this condition because when an adjustment is performed, there is a quick reset on the golgi tendon that connects to the bone. This golgi tendon keeps a “muscle memory” of how tight the muscle is connecting to the bone. When chiropractors realign the bones of your body, the muscles in the area are able to relax. This occurs due to the gamma motor neuron located in the golgi tendon sending a new signal to the thalamus in the brain allowing it to “re-calibrate” to a more relaxed position.

Foot and Heel pain- (Plantarfascitis)

Asher has taken specific seminars tailored to treating foot and heel pain. Dr. Asher himself suffered from plantars fascitis about 8 years ago. He corrected the issue with custom orthotics built by a company he networks with, known as “Foot Levelers.” Dr. Asher works directly with this company to provide digital scans for his patients to assist them in identifying how much pressure is being placed onto their feet. Based on the scan, the company is able to create a custom orthotic insert for your shoe that helps to correct the improper pressure going through your foot and/or heel. Graston and laser can also help in the treatment of this condition.

Headaches, Migraines

Chiropractors can help with headaches and migraines by realigning the vertebrae at the base of the skull. At the top of the neck there is a bone called the Atlas, or C1 for short. This name is a reference to Atlas that is in Greek mythology who held up the globe (heavens). Just like the globe, atlas holds up the base of our skull, known as the occiput. If the Atlas and occiuput structures are not moving in unison with one another, the improper pressure may lead to headaches, neck pain, forehead pain, eye pain, and sometimes sinus issues.

Herniated Discs

Herniated discs occur after a bulging disc becomes further damaged. Once the cartilage between the bones begins to “bulge,” the next injury to the same area may cause the disc to “herniate”. A disc herniation is when the outter cartilage baloons out into the spinal canal space and some of the inner material between the disc, known as the nucleus pulposus, squeezes out towards the edge of the disc, leading to severe pain and sometimes tingling, numbness, and weakness to the arms or legs.
Dr. Asher is able to help patients with herniated discs with his advanced training under the “Disc Centers of America” group.

Knee Pain

Dr. Asher has taken seminars specifically tailored to identifying and treating the causes of knee pain. He also offers FDA approved Class 4 laser therapy that has specific settings for the soft tissue structures of the knee. This laser therapy helps the healing process go faster by increasing the availability of oxygen to the area, and increasing the activity of the cells in the area to speed up healing.

Muscle pain or “Pulled muscle”

Dr. Asher works to decrease muscle tension and injured or “pulled muscles” with multiple different approaches.
1. Myofasical trigger point release — Dr. Asher works to indentify which areas of your body are not working properly and uses a tool called an “Erchonia Percussor” to apply vibrational proprioception to your muscles. This word – Proprioception refers to how your body keeps a communication with your skeletal muscles on where they are currently located in time and space. This is how we are able to stand up on 2 legs. Our body keeps a complex muscle memory of how every muscle in our body should be engaged, either tightened or relaxed during the bodies many phases of movement.
2. Electrical stimulation — At Dr. Asher Natural Chiropractic we also provide a therapy known as “low volt galvanic current” to assist in relaxing your muscles. We also use a hydroculator pack to assist in heating the area and bringing new fluid and oxygen to help the lactic acid in the vicinity to move out of the area faster.
3. Muscle education and stretching — Dr. Asher has also studied multiple hours in kinesiology and physical therapy. Dr. Asher will work to help you identify which muscles need to be strengthend and which muscles need to be stretched. He then helps his patients by educating them on specific excersises to assist in faster recovery times and sustaining their correction.

Neck Pain

There are 7 bones that make up the cervical spine, also known as the neck. Some of the cervical segments such as Atlas and Axis are very unique compared to every other bone in our body. These segments allow the neck and head to rotate, allowing us to look over our shoulder to see left and right. When these bones are not moving together in proper unison with each other, they can begin to place pressure on the nerves in the surrounding areas. This nerve pressure causes our brain to send a signal of pain.
Unmanaged neck pain over a sustained period of time can begin to cause improper signals to your shoulder, arm, elbow, and hand. This improper signal may present itself as a sharp, burning, shocking, tingling, numbing, or inability to close or move your hand properly as it becomes more severe. The reason neck pain can lead to arm and hand pain is because the nerves that exit the lower portion of your neck, directly communicate to your upper extremity (shoulder, arm, elbow, and hand).

Shoulder pain

The shoulder is the most moveable joint of your body. This increased ability to move, also comes with a greater chance to be injured. The rotator cuff muscles can become damaged or torn when the shoulder is moved too far beyond its capacity. Dr. Asher has completed multiple hours in shoulder seminars specializing in restoring the movement of the shoulder. Cold laser therapy also works great in combination to adjustments by assisting in faster cellular healing to sprains/strains and providing muscle tear relief to the shoulder and rotator cuff.

Whiplash

Whiplash occurs mostly due to trauma to neck and soft tissues. When an impact occurs, and our neck is not braced or secured, the inertia force of the trauma causes our neck to “whip” from front to back or side to side. This sudeen “jerk” in motion causes alot of stretching and sometimes tearing to our soft tissues known as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. If this injury occurs, chiropractors are able to help by reconfiguring the balance between which muscles tightened too much and which ones got over stretched during the whip lash event. This re-arrangment of the bones and muscles allows the body to heal faster and stop sending warning signs of pain.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis is the inflammation or irritation of a tendon, the thick fibrous cord that connects muscle to bone. It commonly occurs due to repetitive movements, overuse, or injury, leading to pain, swelling, and tenderness around the affected joints. Chiropractic treatment for tendonitis focuses on reducing inflammation, improving mobility, and promoting natural healing. Chiropractors use techniques such as soft tissue therapy, joint adjustments, ultrasound therapy, and rehabilitative exercises to relieve pain and restore function. They also address biomechanical imbalances that may contribute to tendon strain, helping to prevent future injuries. Chiropractic care provides a non-invasive, drug-free approach to managing tendonitis and improving overall musculoskeletal health.
