Adjustment & Manipulation

Why do chiropractors perform “adjustments or manipulations”?

Chiropractors focus on the alignment and function of the spine to maximize the signals transmited by your nervous system.
Do you know what system in your body is the most important system of all?…. Is it the heart? The lungs? The stomach? The intestines?

The most important system in your body is actually the nervous system. The nervous system is the most important system in the body, because it communicates and operates all other systems. How does the heart know how fast to beat? How do your lungs know how much to inflate? How does the stomach/intestines know how to absorb and digest nutrients? They all get their communication from the nervous system. Every organ, muscle, gland, and cell in your body gets its orders on how to function from the nervous system. The nervous system is comprised of your brain, spinal cord, and each nerve that exits the bones of your spine, known as vertebrae.

The vertebrae of your spine act as a protective shell to defend your nervous system from irritation and pressure. Chiropractors are trained in the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of spinal conditions that cause irritation and damage to our vital nervous system. Each bone in your spine should stack perfectly with one another to create room for the nerves to exit the spine. Sometimes the vertebrae in our spine become twisted or rotated due to injuries, falls, poor posture, and bad sleeping habits to name a few. When injuries to the spine occur, the exiting nerve space begins to close and the exiting nerve is pressured and irritated. This improper pressure causes your body to send a warning signal to the area to prevent further injury. This warning signal is commonly refered to as pain.

The chiropractic adjustment/manipulation gently decreases the rotation of your vertebrae, which allows the nerves to exit freely without pressure. This type of treatment allows your nervous system to relax and eventually stop sending signals of pain. Once this pressure is removed the body can send its full signal down the nerve without interference. This decrease in nerve interference not only removes pain, but also maximizes the signals to the corresponding organs such as the heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, etc. leading to an increase in overall body health.
